Through education and awareness of resources and practices, our mission is to remove health care disparities among racial and ethnic minorities, and improve health outcomes for the community.
Dr. Harris is currently a Professor of Clinical Nursing at the University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, and dual degrees from Xavier University - Master of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Education.
Born in Monrovia, Liberia, Dr. Harris was raised by a mother who was a Nurse, and a father who was a Pastor. Education, Health, and Faith were top priorities in the family, and Dr. Harris would soon find herself moving to the states to pursue her education in nursing.
Working her way from Staff Nurse to Professor of Nursing, Dr. Harris’ career spans more than twenty-five years serving diverse populations in hospitals and communities.
In addition to supervising clinical teaching and practice of undergraduate and accelerated nursing students, Dr. Harris provides health education to at-risk populations of women along with health care screenings at fairs, churches, and hospital affiliated events. She is involved in educating staff at the local health department - improving treatment, record keeping, and diabetes patient services.
Dr. Harris understands the needs of marginalized communities and is working to level the playing field in terms of health care. She has been published in The Journal of the National Black Nurses Association for her research on strokes in African American Women and has presented this research to the American Congress of Rehabilitation. She has spoken at numerous invited occasions to the Cincinnati Black Nurses Association, Tri-Health Hospital, and Community Groups on subjects including diabetes self-management education and cultural competency.
Dr. Harris is a member of the American Nurses Association and National Black Nurses Association, and Committee Member for the Ohio League for Nursing and Southwest Region Ohio League for Nursing.
PHD will serve as an extension of Dr. Harris’ exemplary health care, administration, research, and education – transforming health outlooks, one life at a time.
